As we approach the one-year mark of COVID-19, another anniversary may also be seeming gloomy.
One year of unemployment or perhaps underemployment.
Take a deep breath. You are not alone. This is a global pandemic, so millions are affected worldwide.
It may seem tough to keep a smile on your face and continue to job search with a positive attitude, but now is the time to dig deep!
You can be applying and getting rejected, not getting interviews, or not hearing anything back at all. It's hard, no two ways about it.
Here are a few practical and easy tips to keep going:
Take some deep breaths. A favorite instant calming one is the box breath. In for 3, hold for 3, out for 3. Keep repeating throughout your day.
Practice Positive and Kind Self-Talk
This doesn’t come easy at all so you have to make a conscious effort, but it's worth it. When negative or self-defeating thoughts come up, you have to catch the thoughts and focus on a thought that feels better.
Stop Berating Yourself
There is nothing worse you can do to yourself right now than berating yourself for something out of your control. See also practice positive self-talk.
Your body needs to move so you can stay healthy and you get a shot of feel-good endorphins.
I know you want that tub of ice cream after yet another rejection notice. Or a (family size) bag of chips. Trade that in for actual food, because junk is only going to make you feel worse.
You can do it! All you need is one yes!!!!
