What is spraying and praying?

This term is used to describe posting a job ad on multiple job boards and sites and not sourcing for passive candidates. Passive candidates are candidates that aren't actively looking or applying for jobs but may be interested in your opportunity if it is the right one for them. Even with our current situation when employers are doing everything possible to hold onto talented candidates, candidates will always do what's best for them as they should.

Passive candidates can be found in a variety of places. For example, have you used LinkedIn Recruiter to find candidates? Or what about using boolean search strings to search for candidates within your ATS or a Resume Database like those on Indeed, CareerBuilder or Monster or other job boards?
